A stunning sight awaits you as you climb up onto deck, with Buda high above the river on one side and Pest with its fabulous Houses of Parliament on the other side. A ride up the funicular will take you to the Bastion which in itself is beautiful and from up there you can see right across the whole city.
There are momentoes of the Communist years all around the city and many Holocaust memorials too. I think one of the most poignant is the shoes and boots alongside the Danube itself, in memory of all the Jews who were stripped, murdered and then thrown into the river. Hero Square is well worth a visit too. A really beautiful city - I would love to spend more time there to explore in more detail.
